Baltic – Adriatic TEN-T Core Network Corridor

Coherence with EU Priorities and Policies (if the project is already included in the EU programs and project priority lists and if it is consistent with EU principles/directives in particular concerning the Environment, Public Procurement and State Aid):

The European Green Deal supports the transition to cleaner, greener, and smarter mobility and will modernise the EU’s transport system. By increasing connectivity and shifting more passengers and freight to rail and inland waterways, by supporting the roll-out of charging points, alternative refuelling infrastructure, and new digital technologies, by placing a stronger focus on sustainable urban mobility, and by making it easier to choose different transport options in an efficient multimodal transport system, the proposals will put the transport sector on track to cutting its emissions by 90%.

Core network corridors were introduced to facilitate the coordinated implementation of the core network. They bring together public and private resources and concentrate EU support from the CEF, particularly to:

• remove bottlenecks;

• build missing cross-border connections;

• promote modal integration and interoperability.

• integrating (as ongoing modal measure, these corridors shall be integrated into the multi-modal TEN-T) rail freight corridors;

• promoting clean fuel and

• other innovative transport solutions;

• advancing telematics applications for efficient infrastructure use;

• integrating urban areas into the TEN-T;

• enhancing safety.

The Baltic-Adriatic Corridor has emerged as a competitive development area for growth and jobs in Central Europe. 770 projects have been identified by stakeholders, with a total of € 126.816 billion worth of investments. 418 investments worth € 104.467 billion, implementing activities have already started or is planned. In the same time 352 projects have been completed by the end of 2022, with a total value of € 22.349 billion. 94 projects is expected to be completed by the end of 2023 (total costs: € 6.144 billion). € 5.1 billion of EU funds have been allocated .

The corridor project list includes several Corridor investments that concern electric mobility, LNG, CNG and hydrogen fuels for road transport, as well as to LNG facilities at most corridor ports.

The project involves building new infrastructure and upgrading existing infrastructure. It helps build networks between project partners from the 3SI countries too.
