Pilot Project 5G PPDR – Public Protection Disaster Relief

The project focuses on reliable 5G-ready communications and applications using new and improved interaction modalities for citizens and professionals of the Public Protection and Disaster Relief (PPDR) domain.
Main objectives include:
- Deliver research and innovation,including working prototypes, towards a new generation of 5G-ready products and services tailored to the needs of the PPDR sector.
- To create a new and improved user experience and new user modality for citizens and professionals.
- Implement 4.5 / 5G PPDR demonstration environment and demonstrate prototype performance.
- Collaborate with key stakeholders in the area of public safety, regulatory and political actors in order to ensure the compliance of the portfolio with actual expectations.
The 5G Safety project will focus on reliable 5G-ready communications and applications using new and improved interaction modalities for citizens and professionals of the Public Protection and Disaster Relief (PDPR) domain. This is to support vital business operations, which if they fail, there would be serious implications on business and operational levels as well as on society as a whole and on users individually.
5G Safety is unique in bringing together a winning ecosystem of Slovenian 5G PPDR players to address realistic challenges and expectations, and consequently secure the success and sustainability of the project. This includes consortium members that are leading players in research, innovation and technology provisioning in 5G, public safety, security and commercial ICT sectors, and a landscape of key Slovenian PPDR stakeholders and the Slovenian National Regulation Authority.

Start of the project: 1 September 2018.
End of the project: 31 August 2021.
In Fall 2020 the operator (Telekom Slovenije) will request for test frequencies with the regulator (AKOS) after which the project will move into testing phase with the goal of setting up a demo environment in February/March 2021.
