Power to Gas Pilot Project
Lithuania
Lithuania
· Facilitate renewable hydrogen economy in Lithuania and Baltic Region;
· Gain relevant know-how regarding hydrogen transportation via the natural gal grid to the final customers;
· Assistance to Authorities in the establishment of Legal and Regulatory framework for hydrogen energy;
· Efficient utilization of the excess solar and wind energy via the energy sectors coupling. Will increase security of electricity supply to mainland and the region.
The aim of the project- Installation of hydrogen from RES and excess power production facility (electrolyzer) with injection into the existing gas transportation infrastructure (P2G).
Scope of the Project:
- Hardware:
• Solar panel battery (up to 1.5 MW);
• Electrolyser (app 1.0 MWe);
• Hydrogen compression unit;
• Natural gas/hydrogen blending and metering unit;
• Monitoring equipment to supervise and evaluate the effects of natural gas/hydrogen blend to the natural gas grid and end consumer’s installations.
- Investigations/Deliverables:
• Impact of hydrogen/natural gas blend on gas transportation infrastructure and consumer facilities, to define the optimum blend ratio with no adversely effect on the security and reliability of gas supply;
• Tests for excess power conversion to hydrogen for power grid balancing purpose;
• Acquisition of necessary competencies (know-how) for a smooth transition to the “100% green gas” in gas transportation networks;
• Assessment the potential of P2G solutions for implementation of emission neutral economy in Lithuania by utilizing the existing energy transportation infrastructure;
• Produced green hydrogen will be used as fuel in public transport (city buses);
• The results of the project will be made public.
