Short description:

In June 2018 the Lithuanian Parliament adopted the National Energy Independence strategy which provided for key priorities in natural gas market: natural gas supply diversification, cost reduction and a long-term solution. In August 2018 the Governmental commission approved a decision which clears the way for purchasing of the FSRU as a solution of the best value for consumers. The operator of FSRU was tasked to purchase the FSRU until December 24, 2024 on the basis of the Law on LNG Terminal as amended on December 18, 2018. The process of purchase is underway.

In December 2019, the Parliament of the Republic of Lithuania (Seimas) approved granting the state guarantees of EUR 275 million value to the loan agreements between the Nordic Investment Bank and Klaipėda Liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal operator Klaipėdos nafta AB (KN). The loan intended for acquisition of a FSRU vessel to ensure Klaipėda LNG terminal operations until 2044 and to restructuration of LNG terminal maintenance costs. Following the decision KN signed financing (loan) agreements with NIB.
